Guess I Am the Only One

Installed Vista32 on a seperate HD... install went well enough seemingly without problem. However, from the very beginning I have had no internet connection and on restart no network access.
Running through the repair tools usually gets me back to accessing the network but never the internet. Vista complains there is a problem with modem (Cable here) or Router. That would be OK and resetting these is not an issue. However, this is a dual boot machine with XP32 installed on a seperate drinve and... you guessed it! no problems accessing the internet from that OS. Also my Vantage VOIP is connected through the same router without issue.
Vista seems to install a compatible driver from its own library and shows no problems with the hardware. This is an ASUS A8N-SLI Dlx MB with an AMD 3200+ and 2MB of RAM. XP has no problems functioning with this same hardware environment.
Any thoughts??

Check the Device Manager. You should see two network controllers (I have the same A8N SLI Deluxe) One of them should be the Marvel Yukon and the other should be the nVidia nforce networking controller. If either one is missing then it will be labeled Unknown Device somewhere else in the device list (you will probably see more than one Unknown Device).
I have had problems with the nVidia controller in previous builds but not with 5384 or 5456. I doubt that the Marvel Yukon is your problem. nforce driver is on the nVidia website for your board. It took me a couple of tries to get the right package.

Thanks for the response! I have the Yukon NIC disabled in BIOS as under XP the nVidia is quicker. I found forceware Beta drivers for the NV4-SLI chipset on their site but it says that the NIC drivers are "in the box" with seemingly none available for download?
U will go back and take a second look for a standalone NIC driver in hopes that it will solve this issue. Previously I tried to install an older NIC driver from the MB CD but that created a significant problem only corrected through a system restore (which only partially worked by the way) and other steps that I don't recall.
Thanks again! Len "Colin Barnhorst" wrote in message

Just a final follow-up... Enabled the second NIC on this MB, the Yukon and without any issues the internet became available. Obviously a problem with the driver for the NV4 Controler which I would assume someone will sort out in the not too distant future. All is now well with the internet! Now getting my hotmail account to work... that's another story :(

Like I said, I had problems with the network bridge all through beta 1.
Glad
you are on line.
